No. 20/25 Royals Travel South for SAC Matchup with Anderson (S.C.)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 20/25 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team returns to action tomorrow evening, traveling South for a conference matchup with Anderson University (S.C.). Tip-off from the Abney Athletic Center is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
Monday marks the 44th all-time meeting between Queens and Anderson with the Royals holding a 33-10 advantage in the overall series. Queens is 9-1 overall in the last 10 matchups, including a 77-73 overtime victory in Charlotte just six days ago.
 
Trojan fans and family members of AU student-athletes, along with visiting fans, will be allowed to attend home spring events, with strict rules in accordance with state and local guidelines, alongside South Atlantic Conference and NCAA protocols. Please observe signage at each venue regarding seating for physical distancing.
 
A pass list for both the home and visiting team is given to the coaches with a limited number of tickets for each team's fans. Fans are required to wear an appropriate face covering and maintain physical distancing while in the Abney Athletic Center.
 
IN THE BACKCOURT
 
-Junior point guard Kenny Dye runs the Queens offense, averaging a SAC-high 5.6 assists per game to go along with 12.4 points per contest on 42.6 percent shooting from deep. Redshirt-freshman guard AJ McKee had his best career game as a Royal on Saturday afternoon, filling up the stat sheet with 32 points, four rebounds and eight assists while making 6-of-11 shots from deep.
 
-Anderson sophomore Crosby James II is the team's leading scorer at 14 points per game, shooting 35.3 percent from deep. Redshirt-junior Kai Rivers, a transfer from the JuCo ranks, averages 10.7 points per contest and has scored in double figures in the team's last four games.
 
IN THE FRONT COURT
 
-In the post, redshirt-sophomore Jamari Smith has returned to the court after missing the first six games of the year and is leading the team with 15.9 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the floor. Sophomore Gavin Rains controls the paint, ranking second in the SAC with 8.7 rebounds per game, including 3.8 rebounds per game on the offensive glass, to go along with 11.3 points per game.
 
-Combo guard/forward Jalen Hillary is third on the team with 10.3 points per game and scored a career-high 23 points in the team's most recent outing on Saturday afternoon. Senior forward Josh Livingston averages just 8.3 points per game but is shooting a team-high 49.3 percent from the floor and 43.8 percent from long range.
 
ON THE SIDELINES
 
-Queens Head Coach Bart Lundy is in his 19th season overall and 13th season at Queens. During his career with the Royals, Lundy is the program's winningest coach with a 299-97 (.754) record and has a 395-184 (.682) career coaching record at Queens and NCAA Division I High Point University. During his reign, Queens has won five conference championships (three Conference Carolinas, two South Atlantic Conference), four Southeast Region Championships and has made seven appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
 
-Jeff Brookman is in his sixth season in charge of the Trojans and has a 68-87 (.434) career record. Brookman has additional head coaching experience in the junior college ranks, spending five seasons at Spartanburg Methodist College where he was 120-42 overall.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
 
-The Royals are 12-4 overall with an 11-3 record in SAC play. Queens ranks among the NCAA Top 25 in scoring defense as opponents are scoring just 68.9 points per game on 40.7 percent shooting from the floor. The Royals force 14.6 turnovers per contest and score 16.4 points per game off of those miscues.
 
-Offensively, the Royals score 79.5 points per game and have scored 85 or more points seven times this season. Queens is shooting 47.3 percent from the floor and 39 percent from 3-point range as a team while holding a plus-9.5 margin in rebounds per game.
 
-Last time out, Queens tied a program record with 19 made 3-pointers, going 19-for-41 from deep, in a 108-88 Homecoming victory over UVA Wise on Saturday in Curry Arena. McKee led the way with a career-high 32 points, while Smith registered a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds. Dye followed with a double-double of his own, tallying 16 points and 11 assists.
 
-The Trojans are 5-6 overall with an identical 5-6 mark in SAC play after picking up an 80-79 win over Lenoir-Rhyne University on Saturday afternoon. Senior Huard Alex Keel netted his second straight game-winner for Anderson, while Hillary posted a game-high, season-high 23 points and pulled down five rebounds. James II added 18 points and five boards in the win.
 
-Anderson ranks near the bottom of the League in scoring with 72.8 points per game but holds opponents to 72.8 points per game on the defensive end as seven of the team's 11 games have been decided by eight points or less.
 
-In the previous matchup on Feb. 8, Dye had a near triple-double with 21 points, seven rebounds and eight assists and Smith poured in a career-high 23 points as Queens needed overtime to collect a 77-73 win over Anderson at home. the Royals shot 52.6 percent from the floor while holding the Trojans to a 36.2 percent shooting performance and held a 43-8 edge in total rebounds.
