CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 9/16 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team will head on the road again, looking to build upon a strong showing at Mars Hill with a contest at Newberry College (2-5, 2-3 SAC) on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. The Royals will look to keep pace at the top of the league in the conference clash. Following the trip, the Royals will return home to welcome Coker on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. from the Levine Center.
Wednesday night marks the 25
th all-time meeting between Queens and Newberry, with the Royals holding a 19-5 series lead. This matchup has been controlled by Queens dating back to 2015, as they have now won 10-straight vs. the Wolves. The Royals have won five consecutive games in Newberry. The two squared off twice last season in a home-and-home series with Queens winning 88-72 and 96-91. Van Turner shined for the Royals in both matchups dropping 26 points in the first contest before scoring 25 in the second matchup. The first meeting saw the Royals shoot 52-percent from the field before Queens buried 54-percent of their shots from behind the arc in the second game.

- In the season opener against Young Harris, the Royals set a new program record with 133 points scored as eight Royals finished with double figures.
- Head Coach Bart Lundy picked up his 400th career victory in the dominant season opener. Lundy is in his 14th season at Queens and 20th season overall as a collegiate head coach.
- Queens has scored 80 or more points in six of their first seven games of the season and is No. 2 in the nation in offensive rebounds per game with over 16 a contest. Jamari Smith leads the team in scoring with 15.9 points per game, shooting just over 50-percent from the floor to go along with 56-percent from beyond the arc. Kenny Dye facilitates the offense with over six assists per game to go along with his 14.6 points and 4.8 rebounds.
- The Royals continue to display their depth as nine guys are averaging at least 15.0 minutes per game and five with over 20 minutes per game. Those five guys account for 55 points of their 89.4 per game average.
- Queens has been efficient shooting the deep ball ranking No. 11 in the country in three-point field goal percentage. Kenny Dye and AJ McKee sit atop the South Atlantic Conference cashing in on 56.5-percent of their shots from behind the arc.
- Queens checked into recent national rankings coming in at No. 9 in the NABC Week Three Media Poll, No. 16 in the D2SIDA Week Four Poll, and No. 3 in the Southeast Region.
- Returning their top six scorers and top five rebounders, Queens was picked to finish atop the South Atlantic Conference's Preseason Poll, as voted on by the League's coaches. The Royals received over half the first-place votes and 150 total votes as the preseason favorites.
- Kenny Dye and Jamari Smith were each named to the SAC's First-Team Preseason All-Conference Team and Gavin Rains earned Second-Team honors.
Newberry (2-5, 2-3 SAC)
- After dropping their first five contests to open the new season, Newberry has found a rhythm and holds a two-game winning streak heading into Wednesday night, including conference victories against Anderson and UVA Wise.
- Newberry has scored an average of 71.6 points per game on 39-percent shooting from the floor and 28.7-percent from behind the arc. The Wolves are averaging 39 rebounds on the season and have forced 11 turnovers on average, including six steals per game. Opponents has been able to find a rhythm against the Wolves early in the season as they are shooting 45-percent from the field and 34-percent from deep and averaging 73.9 points per game.
- Newberry is paced by SAC Preseason First Team All-Conference honoree, QuanDaveon McCollum, who posses a team-high 14.0 points per game while grabbing 8.1 rebounds per game. The junior ranks third in the league in rebounds per game. Marcus Ford and TJ Brown round out the Wolves scoring averaging 10.0 and 11.7 points per game, respectively. Ford has also been the key distributor tallying 26 assists this season.
- Head Coach Jason Taylor is in his third season as the Wolves head coach racking up 25 wins since he took over in 2019. Newberry is coming off their best season under Taylor as the Wolves went 9-6 last season.
- Newberry was picked to finish fifth in the conference following a 9-6 overall season, and 9-5 mark in SAC play last year.
