Royals Lose to Bulldogs on the Road

WINGATE, N.C - The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (3-6, 2-6 SAC) traveled to Wingate, N.C., this evening to take on Wingate University (8-1, 6-0 SAC), falling 91-59.
 
Kristy Hamze led the charge for the Royals with 18 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the field and 3-of-5 from three. Kalaya Hall added 10 points and four assists. Christina Deng played some significant minutes flirting with a double-double, finishing with nine points and seven rebounds.  Kiana Barkhoff totaled five blocks, seven boards, and six points.
 
The Bulldogs got out in front early using a 12-0 run in the opening quarter to lead 21-13 heading into the second. Hamze got the Royals going scoring the first five points for the visitors. A jumper from Hall soon after knotted the game at 7-7 before the Bulldogs went on their run. Hamze would put a stop Wingate's run with a three-pointer at 2:19 closing the margin to nine, 19-10, before the Royals eventually cut the deficit to eight at the end of the period.
 
Wingate shot an impressive 64.29-percent from the floor in the second quarter as they continued to push their lead in the second quarter. They would take a 19-point cushion into the halftime break as they led 47-28 at the horn.
 
The Royals found themselves trailing by 30 in the third quarter before putting together a 12-0 run that brought them back within 18, 60-42, with 2:40 on the clock. Queens then went scoreless in the remaining minutes of the period to trail 66-42 heading into the final 10 minutes of action.
 
Wingate would put the game away in the fourth shooting 55.56-percent from the floor and building as much as a 35-point lead before the final horn sounded.
 
Haleigh Brandon led the Bulldogs with 21 points while Bryanna Troutman added 20 points and seven rebounds. Hannah Clark chipped in 19 points and four assists.
 
Up next, Queens will be back at home to take on Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday, Dec. 18. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
