CHARLOTTE, N.C - The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (3-5, 2-5 SAC) will look to add to their win column Wednesday, Dec. 15 taking on Wingate University (7-1, 5-0 SAC).
LAST TIME OUT
-The Royals defeated Coker University (3-6, 2-5 SAC), 49-46, in a conference battle on Saturday afternoon inside Curry Arena. The win was the second in the last three contests for the Royals and it marked the team's first home win of the season.
-
Kalaya Hall led the Royals with 20 points on 8-of-20 shooting.
Taylor Stevens was key as well with a stat line of eight points, seven rebounds, and two steals.
Kiana Barkhoff completed play with six points, seven rebounds, four steals, and five blocks while
Kristy Hamze provided valuable minutes for the Royals, scoring nine points and grabbing four rebounds.
Finley Lefevers secured six boards and
Amari Davis chipped in with six points and five rebounds.
ABOUT THE ROYALS
-Queens is currently led by Hall who is averaging 17.1 points per game this season. She also ranks fourth currently in the SAC in points per game. Additionally, Hamze is averaging 11.8 points per game. Barkhoff tops the league and the Royals with 3.8 blocks per game and has a total of 30 so far this season. Barkhoff is also averaging 6.4 rebounds per game, while
Taylor Stevens tops the league with 4.4 assists per game.
-The Royals opened their season with a win over Emory & Henry. It is the first time that Queens has kicked off their season in the win column since 2015. Two of their opponents since then have been nationally ranked.
-Head Coach
Jen Brown is in her second season leading the Royals. Queens enters the year in rebuilding mode welcoming six newcomers to a squad of nine returners.
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
-Wingate currently sits second in the SAC standings at 7-1 overall and 5-0 in league play. The bulldogs are on a seven-game winning streak with their last victory coming against Augusta College, 68-63.
-The Bulldogs currently have four players who are scoring in double figures. Bryanna Troutman tops the group with 16.8 points and is grabbing 7.3 rebounds per game, while Hannah Clark is totaling 11.3 points per games. Jala Wilson and Lauren Sullivan are each scoring around 10 points per game.
SERIES HISTORY
-Wingate leads the series, 26-2. In their last meeting on Jan. 2, 2021, Wingate defeated the Royals 80-74. Hamze scored 16 points, while
Tia McMillian added six points.
-The Royals will look to break the 25-game losing streak against the Bulldogs on the road inside Cuddy Arena giving them their first win over the Wingate since 1993.
