Dos Passos Nets Two in Victory over Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team defeated Tusculum University this evening, beating the Pioneers on the road by a score of 4-2. With the win, the Royals closed out the regular season on a two-game win streak.

The Royals found themselves first on the board early in the game thanks to defender Manoel Dos Passos who found the back of the net in the third minute. Dos Passos scored the goal on a header off a free kick from Matheus Pereira who was awarded the assist. Queens then rode the 1-0 lead over the Pioneers into intermission.

Tusculum responded in the second half, scoring back-to-back goals in the 52nd and 53rd minute to take over control of the game.

However, the Pioneers' lead was short-lived as the Royals capitalized on a Tusculum defender's mishap that led to an own goal in the 56th which knotted the match at 2-2. Dos Passos' second goal of the night, which was also the game-winner, then came in the 79th minute when he received a through ball from Felipe Mendonca and beat Tusculum's keeper far post.

Andre Castro secured tonight's victory with an insurance goal in the 82nd minute. The goal was Castro's third of the season, and freshman Maximilian Lebedev was awarded the assist.

Queens outshot Tusculum 11-8 placing nine shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Nicolai Andersen totaled two saves in the match and the win.

The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 6 for the South Atlantic Conference quarterfinals. Be sure to follow the Royals on Instagram @qumsoc and Twitter @QueensMSOC for news and updates.
