CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team (16-12 overall; 10-8 SAC) secured the sixth seed in the upcoming 2021 South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Championship and will square off with the third-seeded Anderson University Trojans (20-6 overall; 15-3 SAC) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
The quarterfinal appearance will mark the Royals seventh consecutive South Atlantic Conference appearance. Queens will face a familiar foe as the two programs will meet for the 38
th time with the Trojans holding the advantage. The Royals will look to avenge their 3-0 loss to the Trojans on Oct. 21 in the only contest this season between the two squads.
The Royals enter the tournament coming off a dominant 3-0 victory over the Coker Cobras on Saturday.
Alleigh Johnson (Winterville, N.C.) sparked the offensive outburst as the freshman notched a game-high 13 kills and a .591 attacking percentage. Anderson enters the match winners of their last eight matches dating back to the first meeting with the Royals.
Queens is led by
Lindsay Elmore (Salisbury, N.C.) with 326.5 points as the senior holds a team-high 234 kills and a .277 attack percentage. Fellow senior
Brooke Farley (Fort Mill, S.C.) dished out her 1,000
th assist this season on senior day and currently sits fifth in program history in career assists. Farley ranks third in conference action with 9.84 assists per set.
The defensive effort has been incredible with
Jordyn Johnson (Jamestown, N.C.) and
Jesse George (Virginia Beach, Va.) providing a spark. Johnson holds a .962 receiving percentage with 264 digs and George has a .945 percentage with 297 digs. At the net,
Kayla McDuffie (Winterville, N.C.) leads the Royals with 103 blocks and ranks fourth in the conference with 1.00 blocks per set. As a team, Queens sits at fourth in the league in total blocks and second in total digs.
Tomorrow's quarterfinal match will take place in the Abney Athletic Center in Anderson, S.C. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. with the winner advancing to the semifinals which will be held in Rock Hill, S.C. at the Rock Hill Sports and Event Center.
