CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team is set ot kick off its 2022 campaign tomorrow with a road game at Emory & Henry College. Tip off for Sunday's game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. It is the first time the Royals and Wasps will face off against each other.
ABOUT THE ROYALS: Head Coach
Jen Brown is in her second year leading the Royals. Queens enters the year in rebuilding mode welcoming six newcomers to a squad of nine returners.
The Royals welcome five incoming freshmen in
Joy Cone,
Divine Drayton,
Kennedy Fuller,
Malea Garrison, and
Finley Lefevers while
Kiana Barkhoff is a graduate transfer from Mercer University. In two seasons at Mercer, Barkhoff competed in 34 games totaling 58 rebounds and 25 blocks. Prior to joining the Bears, Barkhoff started her collegiate career at Arizona playing in 22 games for the Wildcats.
In addition to the newcomers, 2020-21 leading scorer
Kalaya Hall is expected to continue her stellar play after averaging 16.3 points and 3.6 assists per game. The Royals also return post players
Christina Deng and
Amari Davis who averaged 7.6 and 7 rebounds per game, respectively, a season ago. The pair also averaged just under 10 points each.
Queens was selected to finish 12 in this seasons SAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
ABOUT THE WASPS: This is Head Coach Jaclyn Dickens third year leading the Emory & Henry College Wasps. She is in her seventh year on staff with the Wasps, spending the 2018-19 season as associate head coach and the previous three years as assistant coach.
Emory & Henry's Alexis Hoppers led the Wasps last season with 13.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game playing in 14 games while shooting 48.3 percent from the floor.
This will be Emory & Henry's second game of the season as they are scheudled to open at Bridgewater this evening.
