CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (3-4-1, 2-2-1 SAC) took on the Carson-Newman Eagles (6-2, 5-0 SAC), suffering a 1-0 loss in overtime on Saturday night at Dickson Field.
Â
Queens and Carson-Newman battled hard in the first half which saw a combined total of 13 shots from both teams on the field. The Eagles outshot the Royals 8-5 in the opening half as both teams headed into intermission scoreless.
The second half was played much like the first as neither team was able to get on the board forcing the match into overtime.Â
Â
Unfortunately for Queens, It would be Marius Opdahl of the Eagles who would score tonight's golden goal. After receiving the ball, Opdahl took a few touches before drilling the ball into the back of the net between two of the Royals' defenders in the 96th minute.Â
Â
Nicolai Andersen totaled five saves in the loss for the Royals.
Â
The Royals will be back at home on Wednesday, October 6 to take on Francis Marion University in a non-conference match. The match is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
