Men’s Soccer Records Shutout Win Over Catawba

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team earned its third South Atlantic Conference win of the year tonight shutting out Catawba College at home, 3-0. The win improves Queens' record to 4-6-1 on the year and 3-3-1 in SAC play. The Indians fall to 6-4-2 overall and 2-4-1 in conference play after being shut out for the first time this year.
 
The Royals controlled possession in the opening half of tonight's match putting pressure on the Indians' defense. Queens would not score until late in the period when Matheus Pereira's possessed a deflected ball and booted it into the back of the net to give Queens a 1-0 lead at halftime. The game-winner was the first for Pereira this season.
 
Queens' insurance goal came early in the second half from none other than senior forward Felipe Mendonca. Mendonca currently leads the league in goals this season with 10. The assist on the play was awarded to Elvis Menayese.
 
Queens was able to add later in the game when a Catawba defender poorly cleared the ball, scoring an own goal.  
 
Despite outshooting Catawba 10-7, the Royals just edged the Indians in shots on goal, 4-3.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Nicolai Andersen recorded three saves in the win. He also recorded his second clean sheet of the season.
