Kenny Dye had a school-record 16 assists as the No. 19/20 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team won its fourth straight game with a 99-70 rout of Limestone University on Saturday afternoon inside Curry Arena.
Dye broke an assist record of 14 helpers that was jointly held by Donay Fullwood (1990-91) and
Daniel Carr (2018-19). In all, the Royals (6-2, 5-1 SAC) totaled 27 assists as a team which led to 65.6 percent shooting from the floor and 41.7 percent shooting from 3-point range.
The opening half of the contest saw both teams battle as the Saints (0-4, 0-4 SAC) grabbed a three-point lead with 9:27 on the clock on the long range shot from freshman Isayah Owens. Owens led Limestone with 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the floor.
Queens bounced back to take the lead a 27-26 on a dunk from redshirt-sophomore
Jamari Smith and extended the lead to a 43-32 advantage at intermission.
Limestone briefly cut the deficit to single digits, 50-41, early in the second half as the Royals pulled away to build its biggest lead of 32 points, 95-63, with 2:27 to play after a made 3-pointer from junior
Kavan Hill.
Junior
Kelyn Pennie led all scorers with a career-high 23 points, making 6-of-12 attempts from deep, while Smith registered 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting in 20 minutes off of the bench. Sophomore
Gavin Rains followed with 11 points and seven rebounds as all 13 Royals scored in the winning effort.
Queens will take to the road for their next three contests, beginning with a road matchup with Anderson University on Wednesday, January 13 in Anderson, S.C.
