No. 19/20 Royals Run Win Streak to Three in Row

POST GAME INTERVIEW WITH HEAD COACH BART LUNDY

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
 – The No. 19/20 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball ran its winning streak to three games with a 77-59 victory over Catawba College inside Curry Arena. In the overall series, Queens has won 18 straight over the Indians dating back to the 2013-14 season.

Junior Kenny Dye led the way with 18 points, shooting 5-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from 3-point range, to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Fellow junior Kelyn Pennie followed with 14 points, while redshirt-freshman AJ McKee had a career-high 12 points in 16 minutes off the bench.

Catawba (2-4, 2-4 SAC) led by five, 10-5, early in the first half before six unanswered points from the Royals (5-2, 4-1 SAC) put the home team ahead by one midway through the period.

The Indians quickly regained the lead and remained in front until a free throw from McKee evened the score at 26-all with 2:11 to play. Two more free throws from McKee moved Queens in front as the Royals carried a 30-26 advantage into the halftime break.

The second half opened with a 7-3 run for the visitors as a 3-pointer from Dye put Queens ahead for good with 18:25 on the clock. Queens' lead quickly grew to double digits at 43-33 following a layup from McKee. The Charlotte, N.C., native ended the game with five consecutive points to seal the victory.

Sophomore Gavin Rains pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to go with seven points down low and redshirt-sophomore Jamari Smith chipped in nine points in 15 minutes of action in his season debut.

The Royals' wild week continues on Saturday, Jan. 9 when the team hosts Limestone University for its fourth game in an eight-day stretch.
