No. 19/20 Queens Looks to Continue Hot Streak Against Catawba in Midweek Matchup

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 19/20 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team returns to the Queen City on Wednesday for a South Atlantic Conference against Catawba College. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. from Curry Arena inside the Levine Center
 
Wednesday marks the 24th all-time meeting between the two schools with Queens holding a 19-4 advantage in the series. The Royals are 11-1 against the Indians in Charlotte and have won the last 17 games in the series dating back to the 2013-14 season. Last year, Queens swept the home-and-home series by winning 90-80 in Charlotte and securing a 94-84 victory on the road. The Royals and Indians also squared off in the SAC Championship Semifinals where Queens won 104-95 in Greenville, S.C.
 
Queens Athletics will allow up to 25 fans to be in attendance at all home contests scheduled to take place inside the Curry Arena for the 2020-21. Fans allowed in the building must be listed on the team's pass list located at the ticket gate and will be required to wear masks while on campus.
 
IN THE BACKCOURT
 
-The Royals start the three-headed machine of juniors Kenny Dye, Kelyn Pennie and Malcolm Stevenson in the backcourt. Dye, a SAC Preseason All-Conference selection, averages 13.7 points per game while registering team-highs of 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
 
-Stevenson averages a team-high 14 points per game and makes 70 percent of his free throw attempts, while Pennie chips in 9.8 points per contest and ranks 9th in the League making 50 percent (16-for-32) of his 3-point attempts.
 
-Six Indians average double figures, led by junior Terrance Whitfield who registers 17.2 points per game while shooting 51.7 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from 3-point range. Senor guard Ace Carter hasn't' played since the second game of the season, but averaged 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest, while juniors Lloyd Hemming and Taqwain Drummond average 11.8 and 11.5 points, respectively.
 
IN THE FRONT COURT
 
-Down low, Queens sophomore Gavin Rains controls the paint with averages of 13.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He ranks second in the SAC in rebounds per game and is among the Top 15 shooting 56.5 percent from the floor. Fellow sophomore Jay'Den Turner is also among the League leaders with 6.3 rebounds per game.
 
-Sophomore Ben Bowen, standing 6-10, shoots 60.6 percent from the floor and averages 10.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. The Indians rotation features five players standing 6-6 or taller, making them one of the tallest teams in the region by average height.
 
ON THE SIDELINES
 
-Queens Head Coach Bart Lundy is in his 19th season overall and 13th season at Queens. During his career with the Royals, Lundy is the program's winningest coach with a 291-95 (.754) record and has a 387-182 (.680) career coaching record at Queens and NCAA Division I High Point University.
 
-Catawba Head Coach Rob Perron enters his seventh season in charge of the Indians and 10th season overall as a collegiate head coach. Perron carries a 129-139 (.481) career record, including a 102-80 (.560) mark in Salisbury. His first three seasons as a head coach came at St. Andrews University from 2002-03 to 2004-05.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
 
-The Royals are 4-2 overall with a 3-1 record in SAC play. Queens averages 74.7 points per game on offense and has a plus-9.7 margin in rebounds per game. Defensively, Queens has forced opponents into 16 turnovers per contest, converting those miscues into 19.2 points per game.
 
-Last time out, Queens shot an efficient 51.8 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent from 3-point range to earn a 73-62 win over Coker University on the road. Dye led the team with 15 points and seven assists, while Thomas was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor to finish with 14 points in 19 minutes off of the bench. Stevenson followed with 13 points of his own as sophomore Gavin Rains collected his second-double-double of the year with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
 
-The Indians are 2-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play with their most recent contest being a 70-62 exhibition loss to NCAA Division I Wake Forest University. In the team's most recent SAC game, the Indians came away with an 83-81 overtime win against Mars Hill University on Dec. 19 in Mars Hill, N.C.
 
-Catawba is among the League's Top 5 offenses with 86 points per game and a 46.5 team shooting percentage. In contrast, the Indians give up the second most points per game on defense, 92.8, and allow opponents to shoot 50 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from deep.
