No. 19/20 Royals Ride Efficient Offense to Road Win

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The No. 19/20 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team collected its second straight win on Monday afternoon, downing the Cobras of Coker College 73-63 inside the DeLoach Center.

Queens (4-2, 3-1 SAC) shot an efficient 51.8 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent from 3-point range. Defensively, the Royals held Coker (2-1, 2-1 SAC) to 39.3 percent shooting overall and turned 13 Coker turnovers into 20 points on the other end of the floor.

The first half began with Queens and Coker trading baskets until freshman Justin Thomas and junior Kenny Dye knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Royals ahead 13-10 at the 11:11 mark. Queens pulled away quickly as another 3-pointer from Dye extended the lead to double digits with 8:09 on the clock.

Queens' largest lead of the opening half came with two seconds left as Dye knocked down a jumper to give the Royals a 37-15 lead at intermission.

The second half brought more of the same dominance for Queens as junior Kelyn Pennie got hot and hit consecutive 3-pointers to move the advantage to 45-18 with 18:01 left in the game. The Royals made 14-of-27 shot attempts in the second half, including 6-of-13 from long range, to earn the road win.

Dye led the team with 15 points and seven assists, while Thomas was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor to finish with 14 points in 19 minutes off of the bench.

Junior Malcolm Stevenson followed with 13 points of his own as sophomore Gavin Rains collected his second-double-double of the year with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Royals return to the Queen City for their next two contests beginning with a midweek matchup against Catawba College on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. inside Curry Arena.
