CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 12/15 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team continues a stretch of three straight road games tonight when the team takes the court against the Cavaliers of UVA Wise. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Wise, Virginia.
Wednesday marks just the third time that the two schools have squared off after Wise joined the South Atlantic Conference in 2019-20. Last season, the Royals swept the home-and-home series with a 90-66 win in Virginia and a100-68 triumph in Charlotte.
Attendance inside the David J. Prior Convocation Center will be limited to individuals on student-athletes' pass list, game day workers and credentialed media. All attendees will have to confirm not having COVID-19 symptoms within the last 14 days and adhere to social distancing guidelines while also wearing a face covering.
IN THE BACKCOURT
-The Royals start the duo of juniors
Kenny Dye and
Kelyn Pennie in the backcourt. Dye, a SAC Preseason All-Conference selection, averages a team-high 13.3 points per game while registering team-highs of five assists and 1.4 steals per game. Dye's assist per game numbers rank second in the SAC.
- Pennie chips in 11.3 points per contest and ranks among the League leaders making 50 percent (28-for-56) of his 3-point attempts. His 28 made 3-pointers currently rank third overall in NCAA Division II.
-UVA Wise features one of the most dynamic scorers within Division II in junior Cameron Whiteside who averages 27.5 points per game, the third highest mark in the NCAA. Whiteside is shooting 52 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from 3-point range, and 84.5 percent from the free throw line while also pulling down 8.3 rebounds per contest.
-Fellow junior guards Tyler Lloyd and Briggs Parris also average double figures with 13.3 and 11 points per game, respectively, but Lloyd has not play since early December.
IN THE FRONT COURT
-Down low, Queens relies on another duo in redshirt-sophomore
Jamari Smith and sophomore
Gavin Rains. Smith returned from injury last week and his averaging 12.7 points and 4.3 rebounds in three games off of the bench. Rains follows with 11.4 points per game and ranks among the League leaders with nine rebounds per game.
-Forwards Kaeleb Carter and Izeah Parker combine to average 17.6 points per game and each player averages 4.8 rebounds per game.
ON THE SIDELINES

Bart Lundy is in his 19
th season overall and 13
th season at Queens. During his career with the Royals, Lundy is the program's winningest coach with a 294-95 (.756) record and has a 390-182 (.682) career coaching record at Queens and NCAA Division I High Point University.
-Blake Mellinger is in his 8
th season in charge of his alma mater and has guided the program from the NAIA to NCAA membership during his tenure. A 2006 graduate of UVA Wise, Mellinger has a 55-151 (.267) career record and has been with the Cavaliers for a combined total of 16 years as a player, assistant coach and head coach.

The Royals are 7-2 overall with a 6-1 record in SAC play. Queens is averaging 76.3 points per game on offense, but the team hangs its hat on the defensive end where the Royals limit opponents to a League-low 66.3 points per game. That mark ranks among NCAA Division II's Top 25 as opponents make just 41. 3 of their shots from the floor and 29.8 percent of attempts from deep.

Quan McCluney led a balanced offensive attack with 13 points apiece as the Royals held CNU to a 34.8 percent shooting performance in the second half of play.
-The Cavaliers are 0-6 overall with all games being played against conference foes. In its last contest, UVA Wise suffered a 98-63 home loss to Lenoir-Rhyne University on Wednesday. Whiteside remained consistent with 20 points and eight rebounds, but Wise shot just 37.5 percent from the field as a team.
-Wise ranks among the League leaders on offense with 81.3 points per game, but the defense gives up more than 97 points per game and has a minue-10.8 margin in rebounds per game.
