No. 12/15 Queens Changes Course, Will Face Carson-Newman on Wednesday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 12/15 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team begins a stretch of three straight road games tomorow when the team takes the court against the Eagles of Carson-Newman University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Queens was originally scheduled to take on Anderson University (S.C.) before COVID protocols forced the game to be postponed.
 
Wednesday marks the 19th all-time meeting between the two schools with Queens holding a 15-3 advantage in the series. The Royals are 6-2 against the Eagles inside Abney Holt Fieldhouse and have won the last 12 meetings. Last season, Queens swept the home-and-home series, winning 83-71 in Charlotte and 84-72 on the road.
 
Carson-Newman's Department of Athletics is not allowing fans from visiting teams to attend home games during the 2020-21 season.
 
IN THE BACKCOURT
 
-The Royals start the duo of juniors Kenny Dye and Kelyn Pennie in the backcourt. Dye, a SAC Preseason All-Conference selection, averages a team-high 13.5 points per game while registering team-highs of 5.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game. In the team's most recent game, Dye broke the program record for assists in a single game, dishing out 16 helpers against Limestone.
 
- Pennie chips in 12 points per contest and ranks among the League leaders making 49.1 percent (26-for-53) of his 3-point attempts.
 
-Carson-Newman's three-man backcourt of Ren Dyer, Luke Brenegan, and Kaleb Wallace all average double figures with Dyer leading the way with 12.2 points per game. Brenegan follows with 12 points per game and makes 39.6 percent of his shots from 3-point range, while Wallace chips in 11.3 points per contest.
 
IN THE FRONT COURT
 
-Down low, Queens sophomore Gavin Rains controls the paint with averages of 12.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. He ranks second in the SAC in rebounds per game and is among the Top 15 shooting 56.6 percent from the floor. Redshirt-sophomore Jamari Smith made his season debut last week and is averaging 12.5 points per game off of the bench.
 
-Senior EJ Bush is the fourth Eagle to average double figures, scoring 10.4 points per game, while 6-9 center Bryant Thomas registers 5.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and a League-leading 2.0 blocks per game.
 
ON THE SIDELINES
 
-Queens Head Coach Bart Lundy is in his 19th season overall and 13th season at Queens. During his career with the Royals, Lundy is the program's winningest coach with a 293-95 (.756) record and has a 389-182 (.681) career coaching record at Queens and NCAA Division I High Point University.
 
-Chuck Benson is in his 11th season as head coach of the Eagles and his 18th overall as a collegiate head coach. He has compiled a 305-223 career record, including 168 victories while in Mossy Creek. He led the Eagles to a SAC Championship in 2014-15 and has made three NCAA Tournament appearances.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
 
-The Royals are 6-2 overall with a 5-1 record in SAC play. Queens averages 78 points per game on offense and has a plus-8.3 margin in rebounds per game. Defensively, Queens has forced opponents into 15.9 turnovers per contest, converting those miscues into 19.1 points per game.
 
-Last time out, Dye had a school-record 16 assists as the No. 19/20 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team won its fourth straight game with a 99-70 rout of Limestone University on Saturday afternoon inside Curry Arena. Queens totaled 27 assists as a team which led to 65.6 percent shooting from the floor and 41.7 percent shooting from 3-point range.
 
-The Eagles are 2-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play with their most recent contest being a 72-66 road win over Anderson University (S.C.) last Saturday.
 
-Carson-Newman's offense ranks near the bottom of the League with 68.4 points per game but C-N does possess a plus-4.8 edge in rebounds per game. Defensively, the Eagles give up 71.2 points per game as the team's three losses have come by an average of just nine points per game.
