GREENEVILLE, Tenn. –
Kristian Eanes scored 20 points with six rebounds, but the Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (5-17, 4-12 SAC) fell to regionally-ranked Tusculum University (17-5, 12-5 SAC), 58-49, on Saturday at Pioneer Arena.
Taylor Stevens followed with 11 points, seven boards and four assists, as
Caitlyn Moore scored five with five rebounds, six assists, and two blocks.
After trailing by 10 points with at 7:43 to go in the third quarter, Queens used a 6-0 run capped by a layup from Stevens that tightened the score, 36-32, with 4:12 left in the frame. The Royals held the Pioneers to eight third-quarter points and after a jumper by Stevens in the quarter's final minute, trailed by three, 39-36, entering the fourth.
On the first possession of the fourth quarter, a layup by Eanes pulled Queens within one, 39-38. However, on the next possession, foul trouble mounted. Eanes was called for her fourth foul and, moments later,
Julia Raflund committed consecutive fouls to collect her fourth as well.
With two of the Royals' starters on the bench for a large portion of the fourth quarter, the Pioneers took advantage. The foul trouble sparked a 9-2 run that featured a layup by Maddie Sutton and a 3-pointer by Kirsten Click, giving Tusculum a 48-40 lead with 7:21 left.
Back in the game with 3:18 to play, Eanes hit her second 3-pointer of the afternoon, pulling Queens within four, 53-49. However, the Royals were held scoreless the rest of the way.
For the game, Queens shot 36.4 percent from the floor, 25 percent from 3-point range and 6-for-10 at the free-throw line.
The Royals held the Pioneers to 32.1-percent shooting and 24.1-percent 3-point shooting, while outrebounding the Pioneers, 41-33. However, Tusculum forced 20 turnovers that generated 21 points off of turnovers.
The Pioneers were led by 12 points apiece from Mia Long and Kirsten Click as 10 different Tusculum players scored at least two points.
