Winter Park, Fla. - The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (1-3) fell short to Bentley University (1-1) and Rollins College (6-0) in its Saturday doubleheader in the sunshine state.
Game One: Bentley 7 Queens 4
The Royals took an early lead when senior outfielderÂ
Sabrina Martinez knocked in an RBI double in the top of the second inning. Bentley answered with two of their own, but the game was tied 2-2 after a two-run blast off the bat of Queens junior catcher
Jordan Hunt.
Queens senior starting pitcher
Courtney Pearson maneuvered around five defensive errors but surrendered a grand slam in the fifth to put Bentley ahead 6-2. The Royals were quick to answer in the sixth when freshman infielder
Kayla Smith towered a two-run homer to cut the four run deficit in half.
Queens went silently in the seventh losing by a 7-4 final score.
Game Two: Rollins 5 Queens 0
Queens fell behind early in a defensive stalemate that featured just six total hits. Junior starting pitcher
Shannon McGuire and sophomore
Khristen McPherson combined to allow just two Rollins hits but Queens was held scoreless in the loss.
The Royals prepare for another doubleheader tomorrow facing Bentley at 12 p.m. and Rollins at 4 p.m.
