12th-Ranked Queens Falls to No. 6 Belmont Abbey in Overtime

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 12th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team (4-2) fell to No. 6 Belmont Abbey College, 11-10, in overtime this afternoon at Dickson Field.
 
Following a game-tying goal scored by Queens' Quinn Tallant with 21 seconds left to play in regulation, today's back and forth affair headed into overtime where Belmont Abbey's Noah Haas scored the game-winner after rebounding a saved shot with 1:13 left on the clock.
 
Queens opened today's game strong scoring the first two goals of the day before the Crusaders got hot in the second quarter putting three in a row in the back of the net to take at 5-3 lead at the half.
 
In the third, the Royals took over control of the game outscoring Belmont Abbey 4-1 to lead 7-6 heading into the final 15 minutes of regulation. A pair of early goals in the fourth then put the home team on top, 9-6, with 14 minutes left on the clock. However, the Crusaders would get hot once again responding with four unanswered goals to take a 10-9 lead ahead of Tallant's game-tying goal that sent the game into overtime.
 
Laszlo Henning, Justin Swick, and Tallant scored two goals each in the loss. Henning also recorded two assists to earn four points on the day. Also recording four points was Kealan Pilon who totaled one goal and three assists. In goal, Kyle Hornik recorded 16 saves.
 
Queens was outshot, 53-35, putting 22 shots on goal to Belmont Abbey's 27 shots on frame. The Royals were also edged in ground balls, 28-23. Both teams went 12-24 in the circle as Drew Flack of Queens and Brady Smith split the face-off wins evenly.
 
Haas led Belmont Abbey with four goals and one assists for five points while Jack Pigott also recorded five points on three goals and two assists. Thomas Sullivan picked up the win in goal recording seven saves in 33:57.
 
The Royals will be back in action on the road at Coker for their first South Atlantic Conference game of the season on March 7 at 7 p.m.
