Queens Rolls Past Cobras in SAC Opener

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The 12th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team opened South Atlantic Conference play tonight with a 16-7 win over Coker College to move to 5-2 on the year.
 
After building a 4-1 lead in the opening quarter of action, the Royals found themselves with just a 5-4 advantage at the half. However, they would dominate the third quarter outscoring the Cobras, 6-0, to build an 11-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Queens then stretched the margin to as much as 10 points before the final horn sounded.
 
Quinn Tallant recorded five goals and one assist in the win while Eric Fitz added four goals and two assists. Kealan Pilon, Tyler Ewen, Adam Barry, and Brendan Hennessey each added one goal and one assist. In goal, Kyle Hornik collected the win after totaling 11 saves.
 
The Royals outshot Coker, 39-33, putting 25 shots on goal to the Cobras' 20 shots on frame. Queens also won the battle for ground balls, 32-22, and dominated in the circle winning 20 of 26 face offs. Drew Flack went 19-24 in the circle and recorded 11 ground balls and one assist.
 
Ethan Irizarry and Matt Murphy each recorded hat tricks to lead Coker this evening. Chris Hagy took the loss in goal after totaling nine saves.
 
Queens is back in action on Saturday, March 14 at 4 pm at home against Tusculum University.
