GREENWOOD, S.C. – Freshman
Edoardo Cecere once again provided the match-clinching singles win as No. 21 Queens University Charlotte registered its second upset of the season with a 4-3 triumph over No. 6 Lander University on the road Saturday.
Lander took a quick 1-0 lead in the match with two doubles wins, as the top doubles tandem of
Sebastian Meum and
Kasper Rolfsen tallied a 6-4 win for the Royals.
In singles play, Queens rebounded by winning four of six matches all going the distance of three sets. Senior
Agustin Aran Martin was a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 winner in the top position, while freshman
Edoardo Bottino won 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 2.
Sophomore
Jan Malmon collected a 7-6. 1-6, 6-4 win in the fourth position before Cecere came in clutch with a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 decision in the No. 5 singles position to provide the match winner.
Queens returns to action today at 10 a.m. against South Atlantic Conference newcomer UVa-Wise in Wise, Virginia.
