Royals Drop Play4Kay Game to Carson-Newman

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (5-21, 4-16 SAC) allowed Carson-Newman University (19-7, 15-5 SAC) to make 15 3-point field goals, as the Royals fell to the Eagles, 97-53, on Saturday at the Levine Center in their annual Play4Kay Game to raise awareness for breast cancer. The Royals were led by 13 points apiece from Julia Raflund and Taylor Stevens. Kristian Eanes scored nine points with three rebounds and four assists.

To close the first quarter, Carson-Newman used a 14-2 scoring run that featured two 3's by Tori Griffin, to take a 20-8 lead. The Eagles took a 41-17 lead into halftime after a 3-pointer by Taylor Goforth with 20 seconds left in the second quarter.

The C-N lead hit its largest, 86-42, after a pair of made free throws by Harli Smith with 6:41 left in the game. In total, 12 different Carson-Newman players scored a point and nine different players made a 3-point field goal.

Queens shot 33.3 percent from the field, 27.8 percent from the 3-point line (5-18) and 75 percent at the free-throw line (12-16). The Royals were outrebounded, 46-26, and committed 18 turnovers that led to 19 points off of turnovers for Carson-Newman.

The Eagles shot 52.1 percent from the floor, 50-percent from the 3-point line (15-30) and 100 percent at the free-throw line (8-8). They were led by 19 and 11 rebounds from Kayla Marosites, 12 points from Smith and 10 from Braelyn Wykle.
