Eanes Scores 20 Again as Queens Falls to UVa-Wise

CHARLOTTE, N.C.Kristian Eanes scored 20 points with four rebounds and three steals, but the Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team (5-19, 4-14 SAC) fell to the University of Virginia College at Wise (11-13, 7-11 SAC), 76-58, on Saturday at the Levine Center. Julia Raflund followed with 13 points and eight rebounds. Madison Sexton scored nine on 3-for-6 3-point shooting and Caitlyn Moore scored eight with seven rebounds.

Early in the second quarter, UVa-Wise stretched its lead to nine points, 22-13, after a layup by Nia Vanzant. Queens responded with a 6-1 spurt, capped by a fastbreak score by Eanes, that pulled the Royals within four, 23-19 with 5:24 to play in the frame.

However, the Cavaliers answered and stretched their lead to 11, 34-23, on a 3-pointer with by Vanzant with 1:38 to remaining in the second. After a Madison Sexton 3-pointer with 1:02 left, the Royals trailed 34-26 at halftime.

Late in the third quarter, UVA-Wise expanded its lead to 56-41, on a layup by Kalee Johnson with 1:01 left in the quarter.

In the fourth, Wise pushed its lead to 20, 73-53, on a layup by Caitlyn Ross with 2:43 to play.

Queens shot 38.5 percent from the field, 25 percent from the 3-point line (4-16), and four of 10 at the free-throw line.

UVa-Wise shot 46.3 percent from the floor, 43.8 percent from 3 (7-16), and 70.4 percent at the free-throw line (19-27). The Cavaliers outrebounded the Royals, 37-31, and were led by 30 points from Vanzant and 21 Caitlyn Ross.
