Columbus, GA - The Queen University of Charlotte softball team (6-4) compiled 26 runs in its Saturday sweep in day one of the Cougar Classic. The Royals extended their winning streak to four defeating Albany State and Georgia Southwestern.
Game One: Queens 18 Albany State 11
Hitting paved the way for both teams in a game that compiled 29 runs and 29 hits. Queens was the early aggressor amassing a 10-5 lead after four innings. Albany State fired back with six runs in the fifth inning to take a narrow 11-10 lead. Queens answered with a monster inning of their own stockpiling eight runs in the sixth to win the offensive affair by an 18-11 final.

Kelly Winter finished a perfect 4-4 while sophomoresÂ
McKenzie McCullen and
Grace Valchar both hit home runs. Senior starting pitcher
Courtney Pearson earned her second win of the season.
Game Two: Queens 8 Georgia Southwestern 0
Queens picked up where they left off opening up a 5-0 lead after three innings in game two. Winter and Valchar stayed hot each homering in the third.
Jordan Hunt followed in the fifth when she knocked home a three run home run to win the game in the bottom of the fifth inning enforcing the mercy rule. Junior starting pitcher
Shannon McGuire completed the five-inning complete game shutout picking up her fourth win of the season.Â
Day two of the Cougar Classic continues tomorrow when the Royals take on Union at 10 a.m. and Columbus State at 2 p.m.
