SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team, ranked 15
th nationally, improved to 2-1 on the season after picking up a 13-8 neutral-site win over No. 19 Rollins College (1-1) this afternoon.
Goalkeeper
Kyle Hornik was huge in today's win recording a new career-high 20 saves after facing 28 shots on goal. Offensively,
Kealan Pilon recorded six points on three goals and three assists while
Tyler Ewen totaled five points on three goals and two assists. Additionally,
Quinn Tallant had one goal and three assists and
Kevin Barry recorded a hat trick and one goal.
After falling behind, 3-1, early, Queens scored back-to-back goals to knot the game at 3-3 heading into the second quarter of this afternoon's game. They then took their first lead of the day on a goal from Ewen 33 seconds into the second where they went on to outscore the Tars, 4-2, to take 7-5 lead into the halftime break.
The third quarter was a defensive battle where each team was only able to score one goal giving the game an 8-6 score heading into the final 15 minutes of play. The Royals then completely took over control of the game putting five additional points on the board with Barry's three goals leading the way.
Queens was outshot, 46-36, by the Tars, putting 23 shots on goal. However, the Royals won the battle for ground balls, 37-25, and won 17 face-offs to Rollins' seven with
Drew Flack winning 17-23 in the circle today. Flack also led with 10 ground balls.
Ryan Dunn led the Tars with two goals while Blake Buell and Kyle Portera each tallied one goal and one assist. Cody Iserman took the loss in goal after totaling nine saves in 46:08 of play.
The Royals will next face Lees-McRae College in their home opener on Wednesday, February 19. Play is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
