SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team opened its season at 1-0 today after defeating No. 16 Lynn in a neutral site game at Daffin Park located in Savannah, Ga.
Quinn Tallant led the Royals offensively totaling six points on three goals and three assists while
Tyler Ewen added four points on three goals and one assist.
Zack Kasson added three points on a pair of goals and one assist. In goal,
Kyle Hornik picked up the win with a total of 15 saves.
Trailing 1-0 early in the game, Queens found the back of the net three consecutive times to take a 3-1 lead into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Fighting Knights responded with three in a row early to take over the lead, 4-3, but a pair of goals for the Royals followed putting Queens in front 5-4 at the halftime break.
The Royals then took over the game in the second half of play outscoring Lynn, 7-3, to bring home the season opening victory.
Queens edged Lynn in shots, 47-42, putting 30 shots on goal in today's game. However, the Royals won just three face-offs to Lynn's 18. The Fighting Knights also won the battle for ground balls, 23-20.
Colby Keefe led Lynn with two goals on the day while goalkeeper Colin Casey recorded 18 saves.
The Royals will travel to No. 5 Tampa for their next test on Saturday, February 8. Queens last faced the Spartans in the 2018 season falling 14-9 at home to a then sixth-ranked Tampa squad. Next Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
