ANDERSON, S.C. – The Trojans of 20
th-ranked Anderson University (S.C.) used an explosive second half effort to hand the Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team a 90-51 loss on Wednesday night inside the Abney Center. Anderson's Alexy Mollenhauer, arguably the most talented player in the South Atlantic Conference, powered her team with 30 points and 10 rebounds in 30 minutes of action.
Anderson (16-3, 11-2 SAC) opened the game on a 12-2 run to quickly go ahead by double digits and lead by ten, 21-11 after one quarter of play.
Queens (4-15, 3-10 SAC) quickly closed the gap to single digits when junior
Herning Wang opened the second period with a layup. A 3-pointer by freshman
Andrea Shire cut the deficit to seven points, 27-20, with 4:21 to play but the Trojans extended the lead to a 36-24 advantage at intermission.
The second half was controlled from start to finish by the Trojans as Mollenhauers totaled 18 points and nine rebounds across the game's final two quarters. Anderson shot 48.8 percent from the floor in the second half and held Queens to a 28.6 percent shooting performance.
Junior
Kristian Eanes led the Royals with 17 points, making 9-of-11 free throw attempts. Fellow junior
Caitlyn Moore followed with nine points and seven rebounds, while sophomore
Tia McMillian chipped in eight points off of the bench.
Queens returns to Charlotte on Saturday, February 1 to host Lincoln Memorial University for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
