Queens Earns Marquee Win in Face-Off of 2018 Co-Champions

Charlotte - The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team rallied to a trio of early goals to lock down a key victory over one of the top teams in the southeast region on Saturday night at Dickson Field.

Junior midfielder David Alvarez and freshman midfielder Caio Brandao notched two goals in a two-minute span to set the tone early for the Royals on Family Weekend in the game's first 11 minutes of play.

Alvarez went back to work eleven minutes later netting his second goal of the night in the 23rd minute, assisted by fellow junior Elvis Menayese to take a comfortable 3-0 lead. Menayese assisted on two goals during the match, while junior defender Michael Hornsby registered his team-leading third assist of the year in the victory.

Lenoir-Rhyne refused to surrender without a fight, scoring one minute into the second half cutting the deficit to two. While the Bears outshot Queens 17-11, Royals' senior goalkeeper Sebastian Kalk capped the night with a season-high nine saves.

Queens remains home this week hosting Tusculum University in another South Atlantic Conference match on Wednesday, October 2 at Dickson Field at 7:30 p.m.
