Charlotte - In a chippy affair, The Queens University of Charlotte Men's Soccer team (6-2; 3-1 SAC) persevered to a gritty 2-1 victory over Tusculum (2-4-1; 1-1-1 SAC) avenging their season-ending loss to the Pioneers in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Junior defender Henri Huryn scored the first goal of his career in a wild sequence off a pass from fellow junior Michael Hornsby in the 17th minute to gain an early 1-0 advantage. With less than three minutes to play in the half, Tusculum's leading scorer, Henrique Devens drew a red card forcing the Pioneers to play a man down the rest of the way. Despite the disadvantage, Tusculum rallied to a goal in the 59th minute by Edgar Cervantes on a long pass from Sander Johansen cutting the deficit in half.
Five minutes later, the playing field was equalized when Queens junior defender Monoel Dos Passos was shown with his second yellow card equaling a disqualification. The Royals managed to gut out the final 25 minutes behind a stellar three-save performance by senior goalkeeper Sebastian Kalk finalizing a 2-1 victory.
