Charlotte - A pair of goals in a two-minute span approaching halftime was the difference in an otherwise evenly contested match as the Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (4-2; 1-1 SAC) defeated Chowan University (2-2; 1-0 CC) 2-0 in a non-conference regional match on Wednesday afternoon at Dickson Field.
Senior forward Nick Aparicio and sophomore defender Caleb Patsch, each scoring his first goal of the season, provided a momentous lift off the bench adding goals in the closing minutes before halftime. Another sophomore, Yuri Poplawski, assisted on the goal from Patsch.
Chowan was the aggressor in the second half unloading ten shot attempts but came up empty in the loss as the Royals held a 13-12 advantage in total shots. Queens' senior goalkeeper Sebastian Kalk finished with three saves completing his second shutout of the season.
Queens is back at home Saturday when they resume conference play on Family Weekend in a match with in-state rival Lenoir Rhyne University at 7:30 p.m.
