Royals Upset No. 10 Limestone in Historical Win

CHARLOTTE, N.C.– With just over five minutes left in regulation, junior midfielder Casey Carrigan scored today's game winner to lift the Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team (4-2, 2-1) past No. 10 Limestone College (4-2, 3-1), 5-4. The win is the first in program history over the Saints and it is the first win over a ranked opponent for the Royals.

Queens saw five different players score each of their goals this afternoon as Maya Forbes, Hanna Nechay, Jill Sherman, Victoria Tredinnick, and Carrigan each found the back of the cage. Gabe Lechner recorded two assists while Sta'sha Waterfield and Nechay each tallied one. Avian Thompson collected the win in goal after totaling five saves.

Following a first quarter where the Saints grabbed a 1-0 lead, Queens erupted to score three goals in the second giving them a 3-2 lead heading into the halftime break.

The Saints quickly tied the game at 3-3 with a goal in 34th, but the Royals' Tredinnick answered in the 43rd to return control of the game to the home team heading into today's final period.

In the fourth, Limestone's Keaghan Keracher scored in the 51st mintue to equalize the match, 4-4. However, a penalty corner late in the game provided the Royals the opportunity to put the game away which they did on Carrigan's goal in the 55th.

As a team, Queens totaled 17 shots putting 11 on goal while Limestone recorded 14 shots putting 10 on goal. The Royals also earned 10 penalty corners to Limestone's seven.
