SALISBURY, N.C. - A trio of goals in the first thirty minutes was more than enough for the Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (3-1; 1-0 SAC) to defeat Catawba (1-2; 0-1 SAC) by a final score of 4-1 in the South Atlantic Conference opener for both teams.
The scoring started early with junior midfielder David Alvarez knocking in his team-best third goal of the season in the 10th minute assisted by fellow junior midfielder Keegan Burton. Ten minutes later, the two swapped roles with Alvarez assisting Burton's goal in the 21st minute. The first-half theatrics continued with junior forward Elvis Menayese scoring his first goal of his Queens career in the 30th minute buffering Queens to a 3-0 lead before halftime.
The Royals added goal number four early in the second half courtesy of junior defender Kieran Gore with Burton collecting his second assist of the night. Catawba answered with a late goal of their own, but it was not enough to unseat the Royals from a 4-1 victory.
Queens outshot Catawba 15 to 11 and senior goalkeeper Sebastian Kalk matched his season-high with six saves.
Queens concludes its four-game road stretch Saturday, September 21Â in Harrogate, Tenn. with another conference matchup with Lincoln Memorial at 3:30 p.m.
