Women’s Volleyball Ends Early-Season Road Trip with Sweep of Catawba

Box Score SALISBURY, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team ended its early season road trip with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-23) sweep of South Atlantic Conference rival Catawba College inside Goodman Gymnasium.

The Royals (6-1, 3-0 SAC) moved their winning streak to five in a row with the victory over the Indians (1-3, 0-3 SAC). Queens hits over the .200 mark for the third time this season and held its opponent to a hitting percentage below .100 for the fifth time.

Queens cruised to victories in the first and second sets of play, setting itself up for a clean sweep in the third. Catawba opened the third set with a 4-1 run before the Royals battled back to tie at 6-6 on a kill from junior Jordan Proszenyak.

Catawba briefly regained the lead until a double block from junior Casey Tarvin and sophomore Lindsay Elmore sparked an 11-6 run that ended with Queens ahead by a 20-15 score.

Despite the Indians tying the score at 23-all late in the frame, back-to-back attack errors by Catawba, including a double block by Elmore and freshman Anna McLain, clinched the win for the Navy and Vegas Gold.

Proszenyak led the Royals with 13 kills and a .353 hitting percentage as well as 18 digs, while fellow junior Logan Witt had eight kills and a team-high .375 hitting performance. Elmore also had eight kills in the match to go along with eight total blocks.

Tarvin had 12 digs and five total blocks on defense, as junior JayCee Jones and sophomore Brooke Farley finished with 15 and 10 digs, respectively. Senior setter Mallory Swarts registered her fourth double-double of the season with 31 assists and 11 digs.

Queens returns to the friendly confines of Curry Arena on Friday, Sept. 20 when the team hosts No. 25 Wingate University at 7 p.m.

Queens Athletics will be sponsoring its annual Youth Volleyball Night and invite all elementary and middle school volleyball players to attend. Anyone 13 years of age and under will receive free admission to the match.
