WINGATE, N.C. – The 10
th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte Royals advance to their sixth straight South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship with a 20-5 win over Wingate University this afternoon. The top seeded Royals will move on to face either Lenoir-Rhyne or Lincoln Memorial in the Championship game.
Katie Wardle and
Hanna Scott led the Royals with seven points each today. Wardle totaled four goals and three assists while Scott had three goals and four assists.
Ally Blood added four goals and
Kara Blanchard recorded a hat trick. In goal,
Chase Brokaw totaled five saves for her 13
th win of the year.
Queens got going early today putting four unanswered goals in the back of the net in the opening five minutes of play. They then traded goals with the Bulldogs before putting together a 6-0 run that put them in front 12-3 with 8:15 left in the half. At the break, the Royals led 14-4.
In the second half, the Royals outscored the Bulldogs 6-1 to solidify their spot in Sunday's Championship.
Queens outshot the Bulldogs, 42-14, putting 33 shots on goal. The Royals also won the battle at the draw, 20-7, with
Sydney Hussey winning nine.
Sydney Bracken totaled five draw controls.
Nina Cifolilli led Wingate with three points on two goals and one assists. Bella Pellet added two goals. In goal, Arion Pierre totaled 13 saves.
The Royals will play in the SAC Championship game on Sunday, April 28 at 1 p.m.
