Queens Rolls to Three-Set Win Over Lees-McRae

Royals set program record for hitting percentage for the third time in five matches

BANNER ELK, N.C. – For the third time in it's last five matches, the Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team set a program record for team hitting percentage, turning in a .451 mark in a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-16) sweep of Lees-McRae College.
 
Queen (8-18) committed just six attack errors on the night in setting the offensive benchmark. Sophomore Nic Cavallaro led all players with 13 kills and hit .480, while fellow sophomore JP Payne was a perfect 7-for-7 on attack attempts.
 
Lees-McRae () held an early 4-2 lead before Queens rallied to score eight of the next 12 points in the opening set. The lead grew to as large as a six-point margin at 23-17 before the Bobcats cut the deficit to just two points. Sophomore Josh Bragg ended the frame with a kill to put Queens ahead in the match.
 
The two sides once against remained close in the early part of the second set until back-to-back kills from Cavallaro and sophomore Tristan Santoyo sparked an 11-6 run to give the Royals a 15-11 advantage. Queens never trailed for the remainder in the match to secure the sweep.
 
Santoyo finished with seven kills and a .500 hitting mark, while sophomore Cody Nix tallied five kills and a .571 performance in the middle. Senior Alexander Schinzing paced the offense with 32 assists and Conner Nagaki led the defense with six digs.
 
Queens' regular season comes to a close on Saturday, April 6, when the team hosts Limestone College at 4 p.m. inside Curry Arena.
