Royals Collect Midweek Win over Saint Andrews

LAURINBURG, N.C. – A four-game road trip started with a dominant 12-5 win by the Queens University of Charlotte baseball team over St. Andrews University on Tuesday afternoon at Clark Field.

Queens (13-28) led from start to finish, opening the contest with two runs in the first inning on RBIs from redshirt-freshman Noah Jones and freshman Nick Melton. An RBI double from Jones in the second put the Royals ahead 3-0 before a two-run bottom half put the Knights on the board.

Melton added two more RBI in the fifth and Jones added one more of his own in the sixth inning to extend the Queens lead to 6-2. Two runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth, including a two-run single from freshman Anthony Molinari, pushed the lead to double digits. The Knights added two runs in the ninth but any hopes of a rally were cut short with a strikeout to end the game.

Freshman Evan Dix got the start on the mound and gave up just one run on one hit through three innings before giving way to fellow freshman Alec Hunter. Hunter (2-1) earned the win after tossing two scoreless innings and striking out three.

Redshirt-juniors Kollin Schrenk and Max Fries, freshman Jake Michna, and redshirt-freshman Wes Boling all pitched one inning of relief to preserve the win.

Jones and Melton each finished the contest 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI each, while redshirt-sophomore Dominic Ford was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Freshman Tanner Jacobson scored three runs and had an RBI in the game as Molinari and fellow freshman Nick Brassington each had two RBI.

Queens concludes its 2019 regular season this weekend with a three-game series against South Atlantic Conference foe Wingate University in Wingate, N.C.
