No. 13 Queens Matches Single-Game Goal Record in Win over Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C.  –  The 13th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte Royals defeated Newberry College this afternoon to move to 12-2 on the year and 7-0 in South Atlantic Conference play. Queens won by a score of 27-3, matching its program single-game record in goals scored.
 
The Royals jumped out a 5-0 lead in the first five minutes of play this afternoon and never looked back eventually taking a 16-2 lead into the halftime break.
 
Queens then solidified their win scoring nine unanswered goals in the second half to extend their lead to 23, 25-2. A goal from Newberry's Rachel Dillion at 12:08 ended a 14-0 scoring run for the Royals that spanned across both halves. Katy Miller then closed the game with a pair of goals to help Queens match its single-game record.
 
Senior Katie Wardle matched her season-high in goals scoring five to lead the Royals in the category while Ally Blood led in points with eight after notching two goals and six assists. Hanna Scott followed with six points on four goals and two assists and Taylor Quade added four goals and one assist for five points. Kara Blanchard chipped in with four points on four goals and four assists.
 
Queens outshot the Wolves 39-8, putting an impressive 34 shots on goal. Additionally, the Royals won the battle for ground balls 25-10 with Cammy Case leading her squad with five. Queens also won 19 draw controls to Newberry's 13.
 
Following the loss, Newberry sits 2-12 on the year and 0-6 in league play.
 
The Royals will be back in action on Friday, April 12 in a South Region showdown at No. 10 Limestone College. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
