CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team picked up its third straight win with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-23) victory over conference foe Coker College on Tuesday night inside Curry Arena.
The Royals (7-16, 3-1 IVA) turned in a program record hitting performance for the second straight match, tallying a .374 mark on offense. Five different Royals finished with double-digit kills, led by sophomore middle
Cody Nix who finished with 12 kills and a .923 attack percentage.
After falling to Coker (5-13, 1-3 IVA) by just two points in the opening set, Queens rebounded to win the second set by a nine-point margin. The Royals hit .696 in the third set of action, putting down 16 kills on just 23 attempts without an error.
Queens finished off the match with another strong offensive performance in the fourth set, rallying from a late deficit to seal the win on a kill from sophomore
Josh Bragg.
Bragg led all players with 14 kills and hit .379 from the outside, while sophomore
Nic Cavallaro registered 13 kills of his own to go along with nine digs. Fellow sophomores
Tristan Santoyo and
JP Payne finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively, as each player hit above the .300 mark.
Senior setter
Alexander Schinzing guided the offense with 46 assists and led all players with 12 digs, while sophomore libero had eight digs and seven assists.
The Royals hit the road this weekend for back-to-back matches against Barton College and University of Mount Olive. Friday's match with Barton is set for a 7 p.m. start in Wilson, N.C. followed by a 2 p.m. match on Saturday from Mount Olive, N.C.
