Bompieri Leads Royals to 4-3 Win Over Anderson (S.C.)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 24 Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team dominated singles play to win 4-3 over South Atlantic Conference foe Anderson University (S.C.) on Saturday afternoon at the Howard Levine Tennis Center.
 
"We couldn't seem to find our top gear today, but we sure competed hard until the end," said Head Tennis Coach Billy Boykin. "I give credit to Anderson – they had us off balance all day long. They are a tough team. We really had to dig deep for this win."
 
Anderson won two of three doubles match to earn the first point of the day. The No. 2 duo of Agustin Aran Martin and Julian Bosch was a 6-3 winner for Queens.
 
Singles play opened with a 6-2, 6-2 win from Aran Martin, the No. 45 singles player in the nation. Senior Mathias Degardin followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4, while junior Sebastian Meum kept the momentum going with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 6.
 
Redshirt-sophomore Paolo Bompieri won 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 at No. 3 to clinch the match for Queens, coming back from a 4-1 deficit in the third set to seal the win. It was the second match-clinching win for Bompieri this season.
 
"We had some really great individual efforts today from top to bottom. All the guys fought through some for of adversity today," Boykin continued. "Paolo overcame some early match physical discomfort to win a three-hour war. He kept his head and used his wheels to clinch the for us today."
 
"He has been working so hard and I couldn't be happier for him. I am proud of our collective efforts today. This was a good win for our team."
 
Queens hits the road for a crucial non-conference region match tomorrow against No. 7 University of North Georgia tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Dahlonega, Ga.
