GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The 15
th-ranked Royals of Queens University of Charlotte were dominant this afternoon in their 24-5 win over Tusculum University, which moves the Royals to 8-2 on the year and 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference play.
Junior attacker
Rachel Perrett continued her stellar play this week recording five goals to lead the Royals offensively. This is the third-straight game that Perrett has recorded five or more points in Queens' win.
Kara Blanchard added five points on a hat trick and two assists while
Allison Conn and
Katie Wardle each notched four points on three goals and one assist.
Ally Blood also recorded a hat trick while
Taylor Quade and
Carson Giordano totaled four points with one goal and three assists each.
Hanna Scott chipped in with three points on one goal and two assists.
Leading 3-0 early, Queens found itself with just 4-2 lead at 23:11. The Royals then found their offensive rhythm, putting the ball in the back of the net six times in a row to build a 10-2 lead with 15:54 left in the first half. They then went on to take a 15-4 into the break.
In the second, the Royals put eight consecutive points on the board before the Pioneers were able to score their final goal of the day at 4:03. One more goal from the Royals' Perrett at 1:57 then gave Queens the 19-point win.
Chase Brokaw tallied today's win in goal for Queens after recording one save in 22:31.
Sara Mitrecic totaled three saves in 37:29.
The Royals completely controlled today's game offensively, outshooting Tusculum, 40-12, putting 33 shots on goal to the Pioneers' nine shots on frame. The Royals also won the battle at the draw, 23-8, with Conn's eight draw controls leading the way.
Sydney Bracken followed with six. Additionally, Queens led in ground balls, 21-12.
Juliette Cusano led the Pioneers' offense with four goals. Kate Pipkin took the loss in goal after totaling nine saves. With the loss, the Pioneers drop to 2-8 on the season and 0-2 in league play.
Queens will have a week off before returning to action on Saturday, March 30 against Coker College at home. Play is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
