CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The 18
th-ranked Royals of Queens University of Charlotte picked up a 10-point win this afternoon defeating Bloomsburg University 17-7 at Dickson Field in women's lacrosse action. Queens improves to 4-2 with the win while the Huskies drop to 3-1 after being handed their first loss of the season.
The Royals jumped out with a 7-0 run before the midway point of the first half and never looked back taking a 10-3 lead into the halftime break.
Back-to-back goals from
Kyleigh Masteran in the second half put the Royals in front by 10, enforcing the running clock rule with 15:53 left to play. The Huskies would stop the clock with a goal at 13:11, but a man-up goal scored by
Sydney Lear at 12:27 implemented the rule once again until the end of regulation.
Kara Blanchard led the Royals with five points after totaling four goals and one assist.
Rachel Perrett followed with a hat trick and an assist while Masteran recorded three points with a hat trick as well.
Ally Blood added three points notching two assists and one goal and
Allison Conn chipped in with a pair of goals.
Cammy Case and Perrett each recorded a game-high four ground balls and Conn totaled a game-high six draw controls.
Chase Brokaw collected the win in goal after notching 10 saves.
The Royals dominated play offensively, outshooting the Huskies 44-27. Thirty-one of Queens' shots were on goal compared the Bloomsburg's 19 shots on goal. Queens also won the battle for ground balls, 31-21, and led in draw controls with 14.
Kelsey Kilgallon led the Huskies with two goals. Goalkeeper Angela DiPasquale completed 60 minutes of play and totaled 14 saves.
Queens is back at home on Saturday, March 16 opening South Atlantic Conference play against Lincoln Memorial University. Play is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
