21st-Ranked Royals Win Big Over Lenoir-Rhyne in SAC Play

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 21 Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team remained unbeaten in South Atlantic Conference play with a 6-1 win over Lenoir-Rhyne University on Wednesday afternoon at the Howard Levine Tennis Center.

"Lenoir-Rhyne is a well-coached team and is solid from top to bottom," said Head Tennis Coach Billy Boykin. "We knew that we would need to compete hard today if we wanted to win this match."

Queens won all three doubles matches to collect the first point of the match, beginning with a 6-2 win at No. 2 by the tandem of Agustin Aran Martin and Julian Bosch. Sebastian Meum and Kasper Rolfsen followed with a 6-4 win at No. 3 and Paolo Bompieri and Joel Dunlap finished off the doubles play with a 6-4 win in the top position.

"Winning all three doubles matches gave us a lift going into singles," said Boykin. "We have been focusing on our doubles play in practice, so it was nice to see us come out and execute."

Singles play opened with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 from Bosch, while Bompieri was a 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 winner at No. 3. Aran Martin gave Queens the deciding fourth point with a 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 3 spot.

Dunlap continued singles play with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 5, as Mathias Degardin rallied for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 4 to give the Royals their final point of the match.

"In singles, we fought hard at every spot," Boykin continued. "Julian was really solid today and Mathias did a great job of finding a way to win the match after dropping the first set."

"We're getting better with each outing, but I don't think that we've shown our best tennis yet. This is a competitive group and I think they'll do everything they can to find their best tennis."

The Royals hit the road for their next match, a league contest with Carson-Newman University on Saturday, March 16 in Jefferson City, Tennessee.
