No. 11/10 Queens Seeks to Continue Dominance Over Coker on Wednesday

Royals have won 9-straight versus Cobras, lead all-time series 41-8

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 11/10 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (20-3, 12-1 SAC) travels to Coker College (14-5, 9-3 SAC) on Wednesday night for South Atlantic Conference matchup, seeking its ninth-straight win in the series. Opening tipoff from the DeLoach Center is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Wednesday will mark the 50th meeting between the two schools, with Queens holding a 41-8 all-time edge. Earlier this season on Dec. 19 at the Levine Center, the Royals beat the Cobras, 96-79, behind a 34-point performance from Lewis Diankulu. Coker's last win versus Queens came on Nov. 25, 2014, when the Royals fell, 72-68, on the road.

-Last time out, in a game that featured 19 lead changes and seven ties, Queens edged rival Lincoln Memorial University, 78-70, on Saturday at Tex Turner Arena. Daniel Carr led Queens with 26 points, Blake Morrow scored a season-high 16 points and Shaun Willett recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Royals earned the regular-season sweep of the Railsplitters for the first time.

-Saturday's win at Lincoln Memorial improved the Royals' road record to 9-0 and extended their road winning streak to 10 games dating back to last season. The current road-winning streak is the third-longest active streak in Division II and includes three wins over ranked teams. This season Queens has posted road wins over No. 23 Lenoir-Rhyne University, 76-69, on Nov. 28, and No. 24 Catawba College, 87-86, on Jan. 16.

-With Saturday's win at Lincoln Memorial, Queens won for the 20th time this season, notching a 20-win campaign for the 15th time in the program's 30-year history and the fourth year in a row. This season is Bart Lundy's eighth 20-win season as a head coach and his seventh in 11 years at Queens.

-On Tuesday, Queens landed at No. 11 in the NABC / Division II Rankings, and No. 10 in the most recent edition of the D2SIDA Media Poll. The placement in the 10th official coaches' poll of the season marks the 55th consecutive week in which Queens has been featured in the poll dating back to Nov. 24, 2015, the first poll of the 2015-2016 season. The Royals have cracked the top-10 nationally in both polls during each of the last four seasons.

-With 19 double-doubles, Willett leads the NCAA (more than 1,200 institutions) in double-doubles this season. At the Division II level, Will Vorhees of Notre Dame College is second with 15 double-doubles. In Division I, Davontae Cacok of the University of North Carolina Wilmington has 18, and in Division III, four players are tied with 16.

-With 272 rebounds in the season's first 23 games, Willett has already recorded the fourth-most rebounds in a single season in program history. He is four rebounds shy of tying Yogi Leo (276, 1995-96, 31 games) for third place. Soce Faye holds the program record for rebounds in a single season with 335 (1997-98, 30 games).

-Willett was named AstroTurf SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 21-27, after averaging 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 43.8 percent shooting, 50 percent 3-point shooting, and 76.9 percent free throw shooting. The award was Willett's second Player of the Week honor this season, and the fourth time this year that a Queens player claimed the award. Willett previously took home the conference's weekly accolade for his performance Jan. 7-13, when he averaged 25 points, 16 rebounds and one steal across two games.

-On Jan. 15, Willett and Carr were named to the Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List, Small College Basketball announced. The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest season across NCAA Divisions II and II, NAIA Divisions I and II, USCAA Divisions I and II and NCCAA Divisions I and II.

-Willett currently ranks third in the SAC in scoring, averaging 19.3 points per game. He is first in the League in rebounding, and third nationally, with 11.8 rebounds per game.

-Carr is seventh in the SAC in scoring (16.9 PPG), fifth in assists (4.6 APG) and fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (44.3%).

-Diankulu is the League's fourth-leading rebounder with 7.6 boards per game and ranks third in field goal percentage (58.7%).

-Van Turner Jr. is second in 3-point shooting (46.3%) and his 74 made 3-pointers ranks him in a tie for seventh nationally in 3-point field goals made this season.

-As a team, Queens is shooting 50.4 percent (No. 13 NCAA, No. 1 SAC) and 42.1 percent from three (No. 4 NCAA, No. 1 SAC).

-Head Coach Bart Lundy is in his sixth season since returning to Queens and his 11th overall at the helm in Charlotte. In 17 years as a head coach in Division I and II, Lundy has posted an overall record of 348-170 (.672 win pct.) and a record at Queens of 252-83 (.752 win pct.). Lundy has led Queens to all three of its Elite Eight appearances.

 
Coker Cobras (3-17, 1-12 SAC)

-Coker has lost eight-straight games with its last victory and lone conference win on Jan. 5 versus Anderson University, 83-72.

-Coker currently sits in last place in the League standings, three-games back of Carson-Newman University (4-9), who holds eighth place. The top eight teams in the final standings will qualify for the SAC postseason tournament.

-The Cobras are led by Khalil Halls, who is averaging 17.4 points per game, the sixth-best mark in the League.

-Head coach Aric Samuel is in his third year in Hartsville and holds an overall coaching record of 23-54 (.299 win pct.).
