CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team, ranked No. 17 in the latest Oracle/ITA National Poll, opened South Atlantic Conference play with a 7-0 shutout of Mars Hill University on Sunday afternoon at the Howard Levine Tennis Center.
"This was a ood opening weekend for our team," said Queens Head Tennis Coach
Billy Boykin. "We will learn from these matches and keep working to improve."
The Royals won all three doubles matches, including a 6-2 win at No. 1 by the duo of
Paolo Bompieri and
Joel Dunlap. The tandem of
Agustin Aran Martin and
Sebastian Meum won 6-1 at No. 2, while the team of
Kasper Rolfsen and
Eugeno Zanasi won their match by default.
Rolfsen picked up another point for Queens with a singles win by default at No. 6 before Meum won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. The Royals clinched the match victory on a 6-1, 6-1 win by Dunlap at No. 3.
Senior transfer
Mathias Degardin (6-2, 6-1), Bompieri (6-1, 6-2) and Aran Martin (7-6 (5), 6-1) all won their singles contest to complete the shutout.
Queens has nearly two weeks away from competition before traveling to Newberry, S.C. for a neutral site matchup with No. 23 Georgia College at 1 p.m.
