JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – Following a road trip that was almost derailed due to road closures, the Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team took on Carson-Newman University on Saturday afternoon, falling 81-57 inside Holt Fieldhouse.
The game began with nine early lead changes as Queens (9-15, 4-14 SAC) took at 10-9 lead midway through the first quarter after a
Kristian Eanes basket. Carson-Newman (21-6, 14-5 SAC) used a 10-3 run across the next three minutes to claim the lead and held a 21-17 advantage after 10 minutes of action.
Queens continued to hang close, eventually tying the score at 27-all on another layup from Eanes. Nine unanswered points from the Eagles put them back in front as C-N carried a nine-point lead into intermission.
Carson-Newman stretched its advantage to 15 points early in the second half and led by as many as 27 points in the fourth quarter to secure the home victory.
Freshman
Jaleah Goff led the Royals with 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting to go along with five rebounds, while Eanes finished with 14 points and four rebounds of her own. Senior
Lade Adepoju chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds for Queens.
The Royals remain on the road for their next game, a rivalry matchup with Wingate University on Wednesday, Feb. 27 in Wingate, N.C. at 7 p.m.
