Queens Grabs Four-Set Victory Over Alderson Broaddus

Men's volleyball improves to 2-1 in IVA play

PHILIPPI, W. VA. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team ended its weekend road trip in West Virginia on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-14) win over fellow Independent Volleyball Association member Alderson Broaddus University.
 
Alderson Broaddus (0-10) took the opening set of action by a five-point margin before Queens (3-11) responded with a 25-18 win in the second set after hitting .444 in the frame. As a team, the Royals hit .301, marking the second time in the last three matches that the team has hit above the .300 mark.
 
The Royals controlled both the third and fourth sets of play, winning by double digits in each and holding the Battlers to negative hitting performances en route to the victory.
 
Queens collected a season-high 14 total blocks at the net. Sophomore Aleksandar Perisic tallied 10 total blocks, including two solo blocks, to go along with six kills, while fellow sophomore JP Payne led the team with nine kills and a .667 hitting percentage.
 
Sophomore Josh Bragg followed with eight kills and hit .500 to go along with four total blocks and fellow sophomore Nic Cavallaro finished with six kills and six digs. Freshman Jordan Haigh contributed to the balanced attack with six kills as well as six digs, two service aces, and three total blocks
 
Senior setter Alexander Schinzing filled the stat sheet, finishing with 37 assists, six digs, three service aces and three total blocks, while sophomore Ruben Greenstein had eight digs on defense.
 
The Royals return home for their next match on Friday, February 22 when they host University of Mount Olive inside the Levine Center at 7 p.m.
