GAFFNEY, S.C. – Playing in its second game in as many days, the Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team battled with regional power Limestone College before falling 67-63 in the South Atlantic Conference/Conference Carolinas Challenge in Timmons Arena.
The Royals (0-2) trailed by just one point to the Saints (2-0) following one quarter of play before Limestone opened up a double-digit lead in the second period and led 39-29 at intermission.
Queens outscored Limestone 22-14 in the third quarter, ending the frame on an 8-0 run that included two 3-pointers from freshman
Kelsey Leedle, to cut the deficit to a two-point margin.
The Saints began the fourth quarter with six unanswered points and led by as many as 11 points with 4:18 left to play. A layup from sophomore
Jaleah Goff with 49 seconds on the clock got Queens within four points of tying the score, but Limestone held on for the home victory.
Queens scored 28 points off of 25 Limestone turnovers, but the Saints held a sizeable 54-33 advantage in total rebounds and outscored the Royals 21-4 in second chance points.
Junior
Kristian Eanes led the team with 15 points, making 5-of-8 shots from the floor and 5-of-6 attempts from the free throw line, to go along with six rebounds. Sophomore
Jaleah Goff followed with 13 points and seven rebounds, while junior
Caitlyn Moore chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds of her own.
The Royals host Lees-McRae College on Wednesday, Nov. 13 for the team's home opener. Queens will host Military Appreciation Night during which all military personnel, active and retired, will receive free admission to the game. The first 25 students through the gate will receive a special Queens Military Appreciation t-shirt.
