CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team hosted Lees-McRae College in its home opener on Wednesday night, falling by a score of 68-57 to the Bobcats inside Curry Arena on Military Appreciation Night.
Queens (0-3) led by a one-point margin after the opening quarter of play, but Lees-McRae (1-2) responded by outscoring the Royals 20-8 in the second quarter to take a 29-18 halftime lead.
The third quarter of action opened with eight unanswered point from the Royals, including four points each from junior
Kristian Eanes and sophomore
Jaymi Golden, to cut the deficit to single digits. Queens got within two points of evening the score after sophomore
Jaleah Goff made a basket with 38 seconds left in the period.
An individual 8-0 run early in the fourth by sophomore
Annika Suhonen gave Queens a 44-42 lead with 7:58 to play. However, the Bobcats retook the lead less than a minute later and extended the lead to as large as a 14-point margin with under a minute left and came away with the road win.
Four Royals scored in double figures, led by Eanes, Golden, and Suhonen with 11 points each. Eanes chipped in three rebounds and three assists, while Goff tallied 10 points and six rebounds. Sophomore
Lauren Fields pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in 17 minutes of action.
Queens hits the road for their next contest, a regional matchup with Augusta University of the Peach Belt Conference in Augusta, Georgia on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
