Offense Guides Queens to Season Sweep of Mars Hill

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team hit .240 en route to a 3-1 (25-22, 25-14, 23-25, 25-13) win over Mars Hill University on Saturday afternoon inside Curry Arena.

This marked the 11th game of the season in which Queens (18-5, 15-3 SAC) as the defense held Mars Hill (14-11, 11-7 SAC) to a .117 hitting mark and tallied nine service aces.

After the Royals took the opening two sets of play, Mars Hill rebounded with a win of its own in the third set to force extra frames. However, the Queens defense stepped up and forced the Lions to hit negative in the fourth and final set to seal the home victory.

Junior Casey Tarvin led the way with 14 kills, 15 digs, and four service aces, while fellow junior Logan Witt also had 14 kills and a .480 hitting percentage. Junior Chanel Turner finished with 11 kills and 17 digs and freshman Anna McLain came off of the bench to contribute 10 kills and a .412 hitting mark.

Senior setter Mallory Swarts registered 41 assists and 11 digs, etching her name once again in the Queens' record books as only the second player to ever have 1,000 career assists and 1,000 career digs. Junior JayCee Jones had 17 digs from her libero position, while sophomore Brooke Farley led the team with 19 digs on defense.

Queens goes back on the road next weekend when the team travels to Newberry, S.C. for a Friday night matchup with Newberry College.
