NEWBERRY, S.C. – Junior
Casey Tarvin continued her stellar play, collecting 21 kills and 17 digs in leading the Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team to a 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-19) win over Newberry on Friday night inside Eleazer Arena.
Tarvin, the reigning SAC Offensive Player of the Week, hit .319 from the outside in guiding the Royals (19-5, 16-2 SAC) to their fourth straight win. Newberry fell to 6-18 overall with a 4-15 League mark with the loss after hitting just .134 in front of its home crowd.
The Wolves opened the night with a two-point in the opening set to put the Royals on upset alert. However, Quenes hit .239 across the final three sets of play and held Newberry below the .100 hitting mark twice en route to the victory.
Junior
Chanel Turner chipped in 10 kills and nine digs of her own off of the bench, while sophomore
Lindsay Elmore had nine kills and hit .429 from the middle to go along with four total blocks and two service aces.
Senior setter
Mallory Swarts directed the offense with 47 assists and 10 digs and junior
JayCee Jones had 15 digs on defense. Sophomore
Brooke Farley finished with 11 digs as the fourth Royal to register double digit digs.
Queens remains on the road for a critical conference matchup with Anderson University tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Anderson, S.C. The Royals and Trojans are currently tied for second place in the SAC standings as Queens earned a five-set victory over Anderson on October 12 in Charlotte.
