CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team honored its lone senior,
Mallory Swarts, in a pre-match ceremony on Friday night then proceeded to celebrate with a 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-23) sweep of Carson-Newman University inside Curry Arena. Swarts collected her 14
th double-double of the season, finishing with 32 assists and 16 digs.
The entire match was a back-and-forth affair, featuring 25 total ties and 10 lead changes. The first set alone saw the two sides even on the scoreboard 13 times before pulled away with a double block from sophomores
Lindsay Elmore and
Brooke Farley and a kill from junior
Logan Witt.
Carson-Newman opened the second set of action with seven unanswered points to force a Queens timeout. The Royals responded with a 15-5 run to claim a three-point advantage following a service ace from junior
JayCee Jones. Queens closed the frame with back-to-back kills from juniors
Casey Tarvin and
Chanel Turner to take a 2-0 match lead.
After the Eagles gained another early lead in the third set, the Royals tallied five straight points to get in front. The final set of play saw just three lead changes as kills from Tarvin and Elmore ended the match and gave Queens its sixth straight win.
Elmore led all players with a career-high 13 kills and hit .370 in the middle, while Tarvin followed with 10 kills and 18 digs. Turner chipped in 19 digs of her own and Jones registered a team-high 20 digs from her libero position.
Queens concludes the 2019 regular season tomorrow afternoon with a contest against Lincoln Memorial University at 2 p.m. as a part of Military Appreciation Day. All military personnel, active and retired will receive free admission into the match and the first 25 students through the gate will receive a special Queens Camo t-shirt.
